Avid Fisherman Has Never Caught a Fish
Hugh Leddy, 62, a retired fire-baller with the Belser Steel Mill, likes to fish. He really likes to fish.
“I've got a worm farm in my kitchen drawer, the one below the knifes and forks but above the spoons. It's important to me,” said Leddy.
Leddy keeps the worm farm in his kitchen so the worms keep reproducing at a fast rate during the winter. “Worms usually go to sleep during the winter,” said Leddy. “But they really start having sex in my kitchen drawer in January and making new worms that I take ice fishing on Muddy Lake.”
What's the biggest fish Leddy has ever caught? We asked him the same question. “Haven't caught one yet,” he replied.
Leddy's been fishing for thirty years without so much as a minnow, he told us. “Hopefully it won't be too much longer,” he said, earnestly. Yet Leddy doesn't really like fish. "They're icky," he told us, "and I'd never actually want to eat one. I just enjoy the solitude and the fresh air more than anything."
If Mr. Leddy ever does catch a fish, he has a plan so he won't have to touch it. "I've got a pair of scissor that I'll just snip the line with," he said.
